In 1980 my parents built a house on land outside of Baldwin City, Kansas. One year later I was born there. When I visit home, I walk in woods and across fields that have become the definition of my beginning. Here I was taught by nature to observe nuance in land, light, body, and mind. In photographing these subjects, I’m reminded of our own nuanced presence in the world.
